righto physician!

I was looking at my high school yearbook (1976) a couple days ago - good lord how much fatter kids are these days! Some fundamental shift in genetics in the last 30 years? Hardly. The kids today are relentlessly - and successfully - marketed to by companies (Big N Large) exploiting an unfortunate genetic quirk of humans - with a few exceptions, natural sources of concentrated oils and sugar were relatively rare in our distant past - we did not develop an off switch for these foods which we require, but when chronically consumed in excess destroy our health. Type 2 diabetes in teens? Unheard of when i was a kid.

What discrimination should kids have? Is it a kid's responsibility at 8 years old to decide on a healthy diet when constantly bombarded with messages to consume junk food?

It's not only fat people shoveling food in their faces, or smokers huffing away even as they know they are killing themselves, but our collective worship of the almighty "free market" that makes it so easy for people to "choose" to indulge their "right" to overeat, smoke, or destroy themselves any number of ways. What the hey, Big N Large is just supplying market demand, right? No problem, right?

Wall-E sends the wrong message about obesity and the environment (becuase it hurts fat people's feelings?) Not as i see it - Wall-E is spot on...
