There is no simple painless solution.

If we were to trace the problem to it's source and attempt to address it there, we would have to invade Mexico and embark on still another nation building adventure. And yes; if all employers had the help and assistance of the federal government in a way that allowed for a quick electronic search and check that would simply give a thumbs up or down to any existing or prospective employee via national identity card that would solve one part of the problem instantly once and for all. This would be quick, relatively inexpensive, and very painful. Some small business would be forced to close. Some prices would go up and many families with recent roots in the USA would be forced to return to a country that they deserted decades ago. There are many immigrant families that have been living in the US for decades. I know of several families that are now three generations deep and own houses and businesses. Property owned by illegal immigrants would have to be dealt with and a host of other unintended consequences would surely follow. It is not just parents and children. It's Grand parents, parents, and grand children. This does not make it 'right' as they say, but it does present issues that are not without profound social and legal implications. How much money in the form of social security, state and federal income taxes, state disability insurance is funneled into the system by this group? Are the American born children and grand children of these illegals to be stripped of their rights and the laws rewritten so as to convict the children of their parents crime decades after the crime was committed?
