My dad was 20 when he married my mom who was 21. He had to get a note from his mom and dad because he was below the age of consent. They gave it, grudgingly, and refused to attend the wedding because they were convinced he was ruining his life and that that older city girl had probably turned his head with her wiles. In other words, they responded as I'd probably respond if I had a 17 year old son who wanted to marry an 18 year old today. M&D are celebrating their 44th anniversary this month, but they beat the odds.
