If genes contribute more to obesity than diet, why does the author also say that the poorest Americans are the fattest? And where is the evidence that the poor in American consume less calories than the better-off? Does poverty or associated factors somehow cause the genes to go awry in a matter of a single generation? And why are the poor in other countries not just as fat, or did Americans somehow develop an entirely different set of genes from people in the rest of the world?
