I had to scroll up and check if I was reading the Onion after starting this article. Apologies if I read this wrong, this parody of journalism may have been over my head.
"But there's little evidence that overeating causes obesity on an individual level and no real reason to think that anyone can lose a lot of weight by dieting."
" obesity is most prevalent among the poorest Americans, who almost by definition consume less than the skinny elite."
Little evidence that overeating causes obesity??? Poorest Americans eat less?? Excuse me but, says who? This sounds like a fabricated concensus to me. I know McDonald's has a dollar menu. Sugar and fat and tons of calories at low cost. The rich aren't fat in the 21st century - THAT idea is antiquated.
I suspect that when early man (genetically identical) was hunting and gathering for survival, that obesity was NOT a problem. For example - modern day tribal people aren't obese. Their diets are usually more restricted nutritionally and calorie wise. They are mostly lean and thin.
Irresponsible to pass out these falsehoods over such a widereaching website. Eating too much WILL CERTAINLY make you gain weight. It's what the body does naturally -saves surplus energy in case food becomes scarce (which happens rarely when you can get a shake, cheeseburger and fried potatoes for 3 bucks!)
