why so important to justify being overweight

I'd agree with many other posters on here that the 'science' in this article was ridiculous from beginning to end. Please, using some study where people ate *only* potatoes and bread for 16 weeks and drawing conclusions from it? That's just awful.
We judge people every day for all kinds of behavior: taking drugs, drinking too much, playing video games too much, having affairs, not going to college, not writing grammatically.
Does the author really suggest that overeating is a protected activity now?
As a formerly fat person, and still a little overweight, I can tell you that I got fat by eating to much and exercising too little, and I got thin by eating less and exercising more. Don't kid yourself - if someone is significantly overweight, they are eating in the car, they are eating in private.
There is no magic set point, and that is exactly why those weight loss surgeries work.
I don't suggest we start judging and shaming people. I thank God my friends and family never gave me a hard time. The reality is, sometimes other things take precedence over fitness, and that's life.
But if we want to get serious about helping people who want to manage their weight and fitness, let's stop with these insane suggestions that controlling weight is as hard as controlling height! Let's get serious about regulating health claims, regulating ingredients, and having some HONEST discussion that's meant to give people who want to reduce their weight some practical tips and suggestions.
Please.
