"In fairness, school districts, parents and legislators don't allow teachers sufficient authority in their own classrooms. If they did, quite a few disruptive or non-performing kids would be moved to schools designed to address them, leaving the rest of the students to perform at a higher level.

But taxpayers who see their money wasted on poorly performing schools are well within their rights to seek change, including restraint or abolishment of the teachers unions."
