What comparable industry requires ongoing educational requirements that cost the employee (teachers in this case) a small fortune for little return on salary advancement? I have taught for 20 years and will be taking more coursework to keep my license. The coursework that I am paying for will take 4 years of pay increases to meet my origianal costs. Simple math informs one that my pay increase was taken away by education costs. In addition, some of the poorest and most ineffective teachers that I have observed were professors teaching education courses!
