I agree with Spruce. I thought this movie was a pretty exceptional social commentary about how wrapped up we are all becoming in technology. I know people who do nothing but sit around texting, playing video games, watching tv, surfing the Internet... and this is their activity.

People don't want to go outside and play anymore (re: the unused swimming pool).

Whether or not this kind of behavior increases the likelihood of obesity (and I'm sure it does, even though some of us did not win the genetic lottery and have to try much harder) I can't say. I'm not a Dr. But it does contribute to the sad and sorry state of us as a people missing out on some of the really great things in life, on which WALL-E comments beautifully.

And I love the love story. The inflections in the characters' voices are so genuine.
