Why were these minorities given "de facto" privileges in an Anglo Christian, white-majority society? Why are white males unable to focus their racism on Chinese to keep them down too?

They have. The numbers of Asian ('Chinese as you call them') at Ivy League schools and the California system have purposely been kept low in order to let 'lesser qualified' whites continue to attend those schools
