It was more convenient and more reliable, granted, but rying to blame oral contraception for ushering in 'free love', or even more for drug addiction, alcoholism and foul language is disengenuous even for you.

People have been having sex--licit and illicit--for millenia. All effective contraception has done is allow them to do so with a reduced risk of unwanted pregnancy (which in the past was dealt with by recourse to abortion or infanticide.)
