Your argument undermines its end, Ted. What a poem could be made called "Catechism at the Card Table" with all the rich associations in your first paragraph. Instead we get "In the Fourth Grade," whose title could only be more listless if it were "In a Grade." But it's fitting in that respect because we certainly get no comparisons talked into submission, but vaguaries and generalities so light they're useless.
