Footnote on “Bucky”
by Tom Andres

“He had a flat, humorless, somewhat monotonous voice and spoke in a kind of verbal shorthand that was sometimes difficult to follow.”

This is what I have heard also, and that he was not shy about continuing on speaking for a remarkably generous length of time. A professor friend of mine heard him speak at a conference in Hawaii that took place in a Fuller dome. Ironically, these domes apparently have terrible acoustics. Therefore many loudspeakers were stationed just a short distance apart throughout the dome to amplify the incomprehensible volume of Fuller’s otherwise fairly incomprehensible sentences. But the world definitely would have been much less colorful and inventive without Buckminster Fuller.
