Why Gasoline? Electrify your Bicycle.
by DaffyDutch

Being an Urban critter who commutes 10 miles mostly within city limits I am bound not to go faster than 30 miles anyway. I did the math and decided that since gasoline is not likely to come down in price anytime soon, going electric might be a better option. I shelled out $600 and within 30 minutes after delivery of my maintenance-free Bike-Electrified kit, I became the proud owner of a quiet, safe and reliable urban transportation tool. No stinky 2stroke and no hefty and loud macho bike. Just the basics that gets me around town at about a cent and a half a mile. Yeah, that's right: all of 1.5 cent a mile (if that). A full recharge is about a single KiloWatt and gives me about 30 miles of transportation if I paddle leasurely along, and about 15 if I don't and let the friendly electron do their job on their own. Next thing is hooking things up to a solar panel, which elevates this to the next level of transportational frugality. We can argue all we like about required weather preparation and all of that, but ground of the matter is that a little rain won't melt me and it is always easier to dress for cold weather than for hot weather. All in all, I'm a happy rider who gets his aerobatic excercise and his transportation at best cost and convenience. Oh and when comparing commute time, going by car is not any faster and I don't get to pay for parking either this way. Cheers!
