Barack Obama's move to the center
by RCH1

Conventional wisdom has always been that once you win the support of your party, a successful candidate will move towards the center to try to capture the moderate and uncommitted voters. And while some here on KFS are arguing that he has done no such thing - that he is simply restating as "aspect" of what he has always said about his position on Iraq, for example, the far left sees his actions far differently.

The Daily Kos, MoveOn and Huffington are not exactly "pleased" with the latest remarks by Obama on Iraq and several other of their "core issues". According to Arianna Huffington - "Moving to the middle is for Losers". Clearly they want him to stay to the Left where THEY feel comfortable.

The Lefts hatred for Bush and, by association McCain, is clearly a significant motivating factor in their support for Barack and they are firmly against any moves on the part of Obama which they see as giving ground on such issues as the immediate withdrawl of US forces from Iraq, repudiation of NAFTA and FISA, Gun Control, Abortion Rights and the Death Penalty.

It is their postion that with the solid backing of the growing number of liberal Democratic voters, tired of the "politics of the past", Obama does not need to cater to more moderate voters and should ignore any advice to move away from his previous hardline rhetoric which got him the nomination.

I guess time will tell. Personally, I want a President that represents ALL of the people, not just those on the Far Left. I want one that can work with Conservatives, Moderates and Liberals to do what is best for ALL Americans - not just those represented by MoveOn, KOS and Huffington.
