Your post is a mass of contradictions -- you want to love superhero movies, but they generally disappoint.
You don't even consider Hancock a superhero movie, in the trad sense, because it surprised your with actual character development.
AND it lived up to what you wanted it to be, even though it neatly subverted your expectations? How can that be so?
To me, you are a typical moviegoer who doesn't really know what they want until they are pleasantly surprised by something that allegedly breaks the formula -- not really, but just enough to delight but not alienate its core audience.
