Re: The existing laws
by trapdoor

Degs: If the existing laws were being enforced effectively, it would be impossible for the U.S. to have the millions of illegal residents it currently has.

Your argument about tax rates is specious, on its face. Because illegals don't recover their overpayments, they may pay more in actual dollars than their legal cohorts -- but that says nothing about the tax rate, which I expect is higher for legals.

I guess you like the current situation because you favor some sort of mystical open borders policy -- I'm mystified as to how that is supposed to work. I don't know of any other nation who would open its borders in that way, nor of any that does (I mention this because liberals are always saying that European nations do things better, and that we should use them as a model). Tell me how its supposed to work, Degs?

For that matter, and this just popped into my mind, I have the freedom to contract however I desire, correct?

That would mean I can contract for any amount of labor I want, with any laborer I hired, for any hourly rate he and I both agreed on, right? That would mean "throw your minimum wage out the window, because there is no compelling interest to force me to pay a given rate, given my right to enter into contracts." How is my reasoning flawed?
