George Carlin as Well
by Donadio.j

I understand you were trying to give your unabashed opinion of the man, but I feel you haven't really watched much of him....because you horribly trivialized Carlin's greatness. To say that he was dated??!! Dated??!! I think he was the most topical, honest voice there was in the media..to date. I don't know what clips you guys have been watching, but I feel you couldn't be more wrong. I especially didn't think the airline clip you played was indicative of his overall message whatsoever. There is a much better clip of him talking about the use of euphemisms in our culture here:

At about 2:30 he starts to explain how euphemisms are a way for the American public to be manipulated through watered down language, so as not to accept the full reality of certain circumstances. Towards the end, it is very topical to things that happen today.

How the media has manipulated the public to be afraid of "germs"

He also had predicted 9/11 in his rant about the irony of airline security:

His humor went far beyond observational, he offered nuanced ways of thinking about the social code of formality we all just sort of robotically accept, to prove how absurd it can be at times. He wasn't just atheist or pro-choice, but he discussed highly controversial subjects in a completely different light so that almost everyone at the end held a new perspective on the subject (aka..how rape can be funny if it's happening to Porky Pig). I could see how you may not find him lol "funny" persay (although if you watch one of his acts in the late 80's there is an amazing segment where he suddenly says, "Sometimes I do this" and proceeds to completely flock and flail erratically across the stage, stop and say, "And that was one of those times", which I think is absolutely hilarious")
