I don't see an attack on McCain's record in the sense that John Kerry's record was attacked by the Swift Boat Veterans. (note that McCain although denouncing the SBV's has one involved in his campaing). No one is denying what happened to him or that he acted honorably.

The comments merely call into question the value of his record in relation to the job of President.

I see nothing in any of the statements to get offended at. There is no besmirching going on. Let McCain explain calmly and lucidly how his experiences will inform his presidency. That's all he needs to do.
