poor quoting
by dinsea

As much of a fan as I am of Mr. Kaplan's writing, I think he does the issue a disservice when quoting General Clark as so...

"He hasn't held executive responsibility. … I don't think riding in a fighter plane and getting shot down is a qualification to be president."

The ellipses, so conveniently placed, whitewash over the fact that it was Bob Scheiffer who first used these words. Mr. Scheiffer pointed out that Obama doesn't have this executive experience, nor has he ridden in a fighter plane and been shot down. General Clark only repeated these words because it's an asinine premise that flying a fighter jet and/or being shot down automatically qualifies you to be president. Not giving the full context of the quote pushes the narrative that Clark went out of his way to slander McCain, which is patently untrue. And this is the problem with the media. They love a good narrative that they can spend the next 48 hours beating into the ground. It's up to the responsible journalists, like Mr. Kaplan, to be more careful and provide the appropriate context that is missing in the media circus we're all living in now.
