However, I agree with the other poster that canned rutabaga is not high on my culinary favorites veggie list.
When I want rutabaga, I go visit my dear sainted mom, who has cooked that root veggie for years. She buys them in the grocery store, peals and cuts them in chunks, Adds them to water in boiler, with a tsp of sugar, tsp of salt and tablespoon of butter. Cook until tender. She is a southerner, so tender is probably more cooked that other parts of the country, but they should be at least fork tender.
Eat with pork chops, field peas, cooked from frozen because the canned guys are vile repugnant abominations to mankind, and cornbread.
canned veggies to avoid (IMO):
Green peas
any of the field peas
spinach
rutabaga
any squash
All are excellent from fresh or frozen.
