Joe Klein, (aka "anonymous") was one of the early defectors on the Iraq war. While a more sympathetic figure than Tom Friedman, yet not as forceful as Andrew Sullivan, he still offers less vigor on the war. This flap over Jewish-Americans and neoconservatism seems calculated to take advantage of the J Street start up. Is it significant that he and Time are showing no signs of contrition? That seems less than meets the eye. A public spat between Jews over neocons is probably not terribly comfortable for Abe Foxman and company. Joe Klein is nowhere near as controversial as say Norman G. Finkelstein. If Alan Dershowitz were to weigh in, I'd think more about this being a serious matter. For now, Joe Klein will continue his demure tsk-tsking of the war, and the neocon faction will focus on pushing the agenda ahead.
