It lacks style. It was dumb luck aided and abetted by a certain plucky dishonesty. Not planned, not filled with panache or derring-do or special technological wherewithal. Wouldn't your exposure of their security flaw be effective only if you told them about it?

The best analog is an "honor box" where you get a morning paper. Taking all the papers out after you put in your two bits ain't a caper, Jack. It's proof that for you, it's not an honor box. A venial sin, perhaps. But nevertheless a transgression for which you should make the storeowners whole.
