John 18:36 - why we won't vote
by whadaboutit

If you take a look at John 18:36 you will see that Jesus says that his kingdom is no part of this world: "Jesus answered: 'My kingdom is no part of this world. If my kingdom were part of this world, my attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up to the Jews. But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source.'" Do you think that in today's day and age that people would have fought for Jesus so that he would not be murdered? If there were those who didn't, certainly most would think they were wrong. If Jesus and his attendants were part of the governments, and concerned of the politics of that day, certainly his attendants would have fought to the death to protect Jesus. BUT what was Jesus' main purpose on earth? Was it to get involved in voting? Was it to get involved with trying to make this imperfect world a better place? Sure, to some extent. He gave us hope of God's Kingdom that was to be established in heaven and on earth. What he did while he was on earth foreshadowed what is to come about on earth - resurrecting of the dead, healing of the sick, providing plenty of food for the hungry - and he will do this on a global scale. Our job on earth right now is to preach about God's Kingdom, just as Jesus commanded his followers to do - not to get involved with politics. This is why we preach all over the earth with the same message. We have no racial boundary lines. We love our brothers and sisters all over the earth. We do not go to war. You see Christians fighting with Christians of another country - is this truly love for your brother? We stay out of it.

When Jesus was in the desert and Satan offered him all of the kingdoms of the world, think about it. If Satan offered Jesus the kingdoms of the world, isn't it clear that Satan is behind the kingdoms (governments) of the world? Did Jesus accept the kingdoms? No. In fact, he said at Matthew 4:10: "Then Jesus said to him: 'Go away, Satan! For it is written, 'It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.'"

1 John 5:19: "We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one." Satan is the present ruler of this earth. This is why Jehovah's Witnesses want no part in dealing with politics.

We are awaiting his kingdom (that is no part of this world) to finally be established here on earth. So in essence, we are voting for Jehovah and Jesus! And yes, Jehovah is the name of the father and there are many translations besides the New World Translation that also use Jehovah's name. Satan tries to wipe it out, but he will never be successful.

We have respect by not trashing the government or policy leaders. We are upstanding citizens. We pay our taxes.

We will not pay reverence to any idol - the flag, nor pledge our allegiance to any country. I could never see Jesus doing this while he was on earth - he wanted NO PART OF IT. But again, people claimed he was crazy, a lunatic, and part of a cult.

2 Peter 3:13: "But there are new heavens and a new earth that we are awaiting according to his promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell."

I hope that you take the time to read over these scriptures and ponder over them.

Good day.
