If your asking is drinking a deterrent from 'satisfying social interaction'? Then it depends. Buzzed, not so much. Drunk, yes. Alcoholic, oh hell freaking yes. My s-i-l certainly does not get a 'satisfying social interaction' from her mother's fist as her mother is 'expressing' her anger. Nor did step m-i-l get a 'satisfying social interaction' from jail after 'expressing' her anger with fists.

I was just making a point that the level of social interaction, even when one is just buzzed, it hindered more than looking at a cell. As for the question about who I hang out with, usually I'm one-on-one with people, but the last several parties I was at weren't too bad, but I also have friends who heavily drink and have to be at least buzzed in order to say they're "having fun."

I also find loud gatherings, alchohol or not, to be more distracting to an interaction than a cell, because I hate shouting to be heard by the person right in front of you, and people can't seem to talk to each other without their eyes darting around to see who else is in the room. Even without cell distractions, at that.
