Has never confronted and dealt with what is obviously a lot of pain and anger and shame about the fact that her father never cared to meet her and have a role in her life? Wow.

And "wow," you're jumping to a lot of conclusions about this woman's emotional state about her father. She didn't give any of that information. OBVIOUSLY a lot of pain and anger and shame??? What??? She's admitting that she doesn't know how to communicate this to her child because she lacks experience with her own mother taking about it, but no where does she say it's because she feels pain or ashamed. She doesn't know how to do it without confusing or overwhelming him. That's not necessarily indicative of shame or anger.
