While reading Mr. Rosner's article I translated it as: "Bomb! Bomb! Bomb! Bomb-Bomb Iran!" Everyone wants something to happen in the Persian Gulf so badly something will. It is amazing that the Gulf has not been closed by conflict already. It came closest during the saber rattling in the Reagan years, but even the Iranians knew it was in their interest to keep the oil flowing. Our liberation from oil will come from actions in the private business sector and individual decisions. It is not in the interest of the politicians to remove this noose from our throats. In the Israeli-Palestinian conflict threating Iran to close the Straits of Hormuz is Israel's trump card and they have shown they are not afraid to play it. Likewise it is the obvious move by Al Queda or any of a number of Islamic terrorist organizations, if they develop the capacity. Our dependency and lack of initiative to modernize our society makes us too vulnerable on too many fronts. It is not ironic that fossil fuel may lead to our extinction, it's ridiculous.
