Re: No, they can't

First of all, you misunderstand the united States constetution. While it is true that the Federal Government can not enact such laws, the states can, and have. This is why partial birth abortion is only legal in a few states, and why only a few allow homosexual marriage. There are very few liberties that the Federal Constetution protects against teh states.

Second, you quote court cases, which is not the constetution. All it takes is another supreme court to overturn Roe-vs.-Wade and we could outlaw abortion.

People want to ingage in acts that have much rational reasoning against. Abortion, as the prime example, can be shown as killing a living child. This is a perfectly rational reason to prohibit it. To get around this, those who do not want to deal with the consequences of sex (getting pregnant) wan to claim the child is not yet alive. This is not reason, it is excusing the action. So, when it is challenged, and people are faced with the chance that their excuse will not be excepted, they get angry and state claiming you are violating their rights. I have heard no argument in favor of abortion that is not backed by a selfish desire to avoid the consequence.

Now, you speak of denying you your constitutionally garunteed rights (which many of these rights aren't) but (speaking mainly of abortion still) you want to deny others their rights. This is what I call self gratifying.
