Word. Just because W royally F-ed things up for the last ~8 yrs doesn't mean most of the people that voted for him had a change of ideological heart. His rich voters still want low taxes at all costs, his rural/southern voters still love their churches and guns (and farm subsidies) and so on. Vast generalizations yes, but even tho the swing is decided towards the Dems in 2008, it's not going to instantly change the minds of people that vote for the Republican platform regardless of who's on stage...
