TJA:
I had a buddy who graduated with a degree in education and had just
started teaching math in high school. Going out to bars with him was an
education. He would meet lots of women because he was good looking and
charming but once they found out what he did their faces locked in a
smile and they found a way to exit the conversation quickly.
TJA:
He met several women who taught at his school who told him directly
that altough they love teaching, they could NEVER marry a teacher
because they need someone who makes enough money to compensate for the
fact that they don't make much. Unlike PhysicsGirl, I agree with you. I'm an accountant and my
experience is that the women peers were mostly married to big firm
lawyers, doctors and senior executives. An no, they weren't all Paris Hilton clones - in fact, some were at the other extreme. Many of the guys were single (and remain so) or married down.
Basically, an accountant's salary (very few get the really big bucks) is a good second income for a high earning man but two such incomes were insufficient for many of these women.
This is a factor in this profession becoming more and more a "women's ghetto" like nursing and teaching.
