I'm with you 99% on this. The only thing I'd disagree with is that there's been some constriction of the options available to men in terms of gender roles and expectations.
Men have pretty much always had the options of working for the primary goal of income generation whether or not they like their jobs, or being considered a "loser" (even in the rare cases where men are with a woman who could provide an afflent standard of living as a lone breadwinner there is a lack of respect accorded to men who take advantage of that which isn't nearly matched by attitudes toward "trophy wives").
That those are still pretty much the options avaialble to men today represents the continuation of a status quo, not a constriction from some cornucopia of options that once existed.
