Several years ago we took a little cruise from Los Angeles, Ca to Encinada, Mexico. While there we took a bus tour of the area. Our guide was very proud of the fields of produce grown to export to the USA. She was also very proud of the fact that human waste was used as fertilizer.
I stopped purchasing produce from Mexico right then and there. I would rather wait for produce in season grown here at home or from Canada. I notice that in our local paper, the countries who were cleared from being involved in this latest incident of produce poisening were posted. No mention of Mexico or China...the countries that send us dangerous foods as being in anyway involved.
What this country needs is a protective agency or administration...maybe a Food and Drug department that would be given responsiblity to make sure that imported foods were safely produced...that drugs produced in foreign countries met our safety standards, etc., etc.
I suggest a good name for this might be The FDA. :o)
