The pooch screwed it
by Telemachus
I agree that Ang Lee's (no relation to Stan) version was a pretty good movie. It is one of those that I have enjoyed more the second viewing than the first. The desert scenes and the sequences of the Hulk leaping are missing from the new movie, I believe to its detriment. As someone who grew up reading Marvel comics as they appeared at the newsstands, I felt that the Hulk required a different approach from the usual superhero screen formula. But, like almost everyone else, I was disappointed in the delay in the big guy's appearance and the limited amount of smashing he did. I did appreciate that his father became an old time Marvel villain, the Absorbing Man, complete with criminal background. And the final fight where he takes in all the ambient energy around them, freezing the lake, and absorbs too much power from the Hulk and is destroyed by it (not the nuke), I think, is one of the best "super" fights depicted. But, let's face it, one we saw Super Poodle, we couldn't get over it to properly enjoy the show. It was probably meant as some sort of humor, but in an otherwise humorless film (and that was a problem too) it was jarring. And not in a good way. I still recommend the movie to anyone who likes the mythical action genre. When my brothers were visiting, I had them watch it again with me and they agreed it was a lot better than they remembered. The new movie has the same basic problem as the first one, though. Not enough Hulk!
