I do apologize for the sarcasm. However, saying the same thing, only louder, doesn't provide further detail for your assertions. Who is doing the ostensibly failed promoting? Are you talking about churches, parents or school sex-ed classes? Promotion in general regardless of the source? For whom has abstinence failed? Certainly not for those of us who used it. What are your criteria for failure?

We promote a lot of other things in church, like forgiveness and honesty, but of course people are weak in their natural selves, and so are not perfect in practicing these virtues either. Just because people often fail to live up to standards of virtue, doe not mean that virtue should be abandoned. Abandoning morality because being countercultural is difficult is where churches are failing.
