There is also supposed to be something called pre-ignition catalytic converter technology on the horizon. It supposed to make a car able to triple or quadruple their mileage. It will be great if all these things become reality. I always knew necessity was the mother of invention and have had faith that human, if not American, ingenuity would come up with solutions to our energy problems.
It makes you wonder though. Now if the oil companies knew these technologies were on the horizon and realized that they would effectively reduce demand for gas by a half or two thirds, what would be the optimal thing for them to do? Getting the price of gas to a level that compensates for the reduced demand doesn’t seem like an unreasonable response to this eventuality. And how could they accomplish getting the price of oil higher which would cause the price of gas higher? By closing the gasoline spigots every time someone farts in the oil industry which would reduce supply and couple that with pumping all the money they can, be it excess profits or otherwise, into hedge funds that bid up the wholesale price of a barrel of oil.
I don’t go in much for conspiracy theories, but when it comes to oil, I’m willing to listen.
