At this point, anything would have been better, but Obama came up as a community activist and I suppose that that church would have been the most helpful in that regard, at the time. It’s the type of church that would wield significant political clout in the black community in Chicago. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and all. A more moderate church would not have been as helpful with his career I’d expect.
