When I trained for ministry, as a born again Christian, the verse that best represented the kind of devotion I placed on the altar was that old testament moment when a slave is freed but chooses instead to remain a slave to his master - for life - and signifies it by having an awl driven through his ear lobe (a very strong piercing). We viewed the New Testament ministry as service of a life slave, it was no small commitment.

My point in this thread was that the veil is a mark of ownership, that it is very much like the ownership of marriage, and that the devotion of belonging in Islam, Jewish, and Christian faiths is a marital devotion to God... I am an old man but I am part of the bride of Christ. It is the devotion of faith that instills a strong feeling to our service, and it is that feeling of service, of serving God, that is wearing the veil, at least that's my perspective from my own experience of laying my life on the altar to God's service. I suppose someone could come along and view that ear piercing as a form of repression, but to me, it was a decision to commit my life to serve Jesus in the church.
