I have similar thoughts about the intergenerational thing. It's one thing for it to just happen and it's another to continually pursue it relationship after relationship. One means you just fell for each other, another would mean there's some self analysis necessary, imo. It's the same for people who pathologically only date a specific race (well, specifically when it's a race that's not their own). It appears to be less about the individual and more about what your expectations of the individual are.

As an aside, Harold and Maude is one of my favorite movies!

Exactly! I have serious misgivings about most any fixation, whether it manifests romantically, erotically, politically, religiously or in any other manner. I have even deeper misgivings about fixations that result in people consciously and deliberately targetting other human beings to become emotionally entangled with. There is something vaguely pathological about it to me.
