Re: Why couldn't Hillary close the deal in Oregon?
by agentk
I really have no preference for Kentucky or Oregon. I'm a Texan, so by definition I barely even acknowledge other states anyway. My point is to highlight the absurdity of the arguments being made now that Hillary has an advantage with white, uneducated voters, that this advantage would even be poignant if it did exist, that some voters are more important than others, and that it is somehow Obama's responsibility to "close deals," or that Hillary does not have the same obligation to prove her ability to win over black or male or young or independent voters. Obama's responsibility is to run the best campaign he can, and he has done so. It is the PARTY'S responsibility to close deals, and by continuing to allow this rift to exist and expand, and by cowering in fear of the almighty Clintons, they are not fulfilling their duty. It is the duty of the party to do what's best for the party, and it is by extension the duty of the candidates in that party to do what's best for the party. Hillary, by not only staying in past all rational chances of winning, but by continuing to attack Obama as the front-runner, is not doing what's best for the party. And even though I am an Obama supporter, I would believe the same to be true were the positions reversed.
