Well, Pete, you got off to a bad start here, because your premise (that it is necessary to redefine the word marriage) is false and your "definition" is incorrect.

Marriage is defined there as:

1 a (1): the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law (2): the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage <same-sex marriage>

That little detail having been dispensed with, can we now get on with giving everyone in this country the equal rights to which our constitution entitles them?
