I know, John, I know! Sometimes you must wonder if the posters replying to your article actually read it and if they did, were they seriously hampered in their comprehension by their sixth grade only education and the inability to pronounce 'nuclear'?
Well you go to the polls with the voters you have not with the voters you want.
You know, if for nothing else that evil old bastard Rumsfeld should be immortalized for the handy versatility of that bit of phraseology. May his Lord Satan bless him and all his fellow neo-conservatives.
Yes, indeed, McCain is going to do his best to paint Obama as a radical and therefore impractical leftwingnut and Obama -- via the DNC -- is going to do their best to paint McCain as a senile racist and warmonger that carries what's left of that brain in his trouser pocket. Great fun, eh?
People are horrified at the mess that the GOP has made of the two separate war ventures and the economy. Those are the big stinking elephants [as current issues] in this race, although -- speaking of race -- that will again rear it's ugly head . . . even after a triumphant Obama and DNC finish burying the corpse of Hillary Clinton. Like MacArthur said regarding the Philippines, "I shall return," and so too with the issue of race and bigotry.
But at the moment it is about the wars and the economy. It is about the military draft or hiring mercenaries on a huge scale or about so rearranging the other branches of the military that a sailor chipping paint off a destroyer that's cruising off Oninawa finding himself reassigned to dirtside duty in Iraq.
Bush has run the military into the ground and the services inclusive have reached their breaking point. Something has to give. There is no way that citizens will tolerate seeing their war age college 'babies' stuffed into uniforms and put into military service. But unless the Unites States can hire about a hundred thousand or a hundred and fifty thousand thoroughly trained and trustworthy mercenaries to act as a relief force the two separate war ventures are going to have to come to an end in the relatively near future.
As for the economy, the collapsed housing bubble is only the tip of the iceberg and the fact that we have mortgaged our future to the tune of trillions of dollars to finance these two war ventures and ARE STILL DOING THAT while our economy continues to tank means that either we get out of the war business or the liberal credo of taking care of the weak and the poor and the elderly can be flushed down the toilet.
Speaking of flushing, all those tax breaks for the wealthy are going to have to go down the tubes just to keep the funding for our government programs from collapsing.
Considering what must be done on the war front and the taxation front, the conservatives AND PERHAPS the liberals are going to go up in flames in the not too distant future.
Oh, and the downside of Obama for mainstream voters is not his race [the blatant bigotry of liberals regarding their assumptions on that issue notwithstanding], it is about -- ta-da! -- experience! About McCain having plenty and about Obama having something like negative zero.
That will be a huge issue in the general election and it will matter because mainstream democrats AND republicans do not want to trust this crippled nation to the well meaning bumbling of a bloody damn amateur during a military and economic crisis. The McCain people will hammer that point hard.
Of course people are so disgusted with the results of the G.W. bush policies that there may be no way for McCain to make voters see any real differences between himself and the current bumbler-in-chief.
The ironies in all of this is that the answer is somewhere between the way that McCain would want to handle things and the way that Obama would want to handle things. Yep we need . . . oh wait she is currently having her liver carved out and eaten before her eyes by the corrupt DNC.
Oh never mind then. Obviously you go into the general election with the candidates you have not with the one perfect candidate that you could have had.
So it goes.
