Re: FOR Human Equality
by PoliSci Guy

I often find it ironic, that in the course of denouncing homosexuality in the name of morality, people such as Spiker are merely peddling essentially a false morality. You are coming from the position that homosexuality is immoral in the eyes of god. Fine, that is your opinion and you have your right to it. But what business of it is yours, the condition of another's soul? Seems you are trying to judge thy fellow man and woman, and that you, speaking for god, know what is best for them. The greeks had a word for that: hubris. You spread hate and call it morality. You preach intolerance and call it holy. For that, I laugh in your face.

Oh, and I concede that Western civilization in general, as well as the US more to the point, was indeed founded, to a large extent, on Judeo-Christian teachings. The idea of personal responsibility, justice, helping those less fortunate, free will, etc., are all incredible things, and our country, and the world, would be worse off without these foundations. Yet you are violating these very principles yourself.

One more point. Yeah, homosexuality may be a sin in the bible. But I believe in evolution. I'm not talking about biology here. I'm talking philosophical and moral evolution. This is not the first century AD. Times have changed. Judeo-Christianity has given us foundations for our moral code; this does not mean an even better moral code cannot come out of it. Things such as equality, between men and women, white and non, have evolved and are now inviolable. We can form, not just a more perfect union, but a more perfect understanding of humanity and what it truly means to be moral. Any measure, such as the decision affirming the right of gays and lesbians to marry, that asserts human dignity and liberty is fundamentally moral.
