TexasPete:If gays were "born" that way you might have a point however the Human genome has been completely mapped and no "gay" gene has been discovered. There is no special rights status for choices made by people. There is no special right for people who choose to pick their nose in public or people who choose to scratch their ass on the street. There should be no special right for people who choose to be gay.
Being gay is a choice no different than the choice to smoke, pick your nose or scratch your ass. Redefining an Institution for such a choice is a travesty!
Pete, I think you're talking about things that you don't really understand.
First of all, that is not how the human genome project works. It's not like we have identified the baldness gene, the obesity gene, and the unibrow gene, but we just can't find the gay gene. The genome project doesn't work like that all.
Secondly, there is a lot of movement toward the notion that homosexuality is not genetic, but it is prenatal, having to do with the prenatal hormone level of the mother. There is some pretty good evidence that this is true for sheep. So it is highly possible that homosexuality is not a choice, but also not hereditary. Still it is the way a person is born.
