It's an incredibly hard job, though.

I commented above on the professional bin divers in Chicago. These folks comb the alleys in their pickups, looking for anything they can sell. I mean literally anything. Clothing, old furniture, appliances, and anything else you can think of are all gone the same night the garbage goes out.

It's gotten to the point where few people take things to the Salvation Army or Goodwill any more. Why should they, when things are not only picked up, but are used to make a living by the people willing to do the job?
