Hey, Hellfire, Let's Start Over
by the_slasher14

I don't like an exchange with anyone to end as ours has been going, and my friend run75441 tells me you're a good guy. So let's try to start over.

1. Let's start with what I think we agree on. I have never called McCain any of the names you object to and would agree TOTALLY that McTraitor or McCoward are way out of line. I haven't seen these in any thread I've read -- if I had, I'd object. I don't think they're in this thread -- if they are, I missed it or I certainly would have said something. While I disagree with McCain on a lot of things, I have nothing but respect for his sacrifices. I ESPECIALLY have respect for the fact that his son is serving in Iraq (a real rarity among Congresspersons) and, even more, McCain never talks about it on the campaign trail, which is very classy.

2. I did not object to the use of the name "McSame" because I don't think that it's meant as an insult. It's a statement that McCain will be the same as Bush, which is true on enough issues (Iraq, taxes, Supreme Court judges) that a person saying "McCain is the same as Bush" is only stating an opinion that isn't completely out of left field. In fact, a lot of conservatives are HAPPY with the idea that McCain will provide a third Bush term. McSame is the equivalent of calling someone a limousine liberal -- it's part of the political game, and doesn't accuse the man of anything other than holding certain views. McTraitor says he's guilty of a capital crime, and McCoward impeaches his character -- they're out of bounds for me. McSame isn't something I would have said (and look over the threat -- I DIDN'T say it), but it's not out of bounds to my mind.

3. Nigger, to me, is also out of bounds, because it uses the word racists have used to denigrate blacks for centuries and implies that Obama is to be despised for what he IS, as opposed to what he stands for. You want to call him a wimp, that's your opinion. You want to call him a bleeding heart liberal, be my guest. When you call him a nigger, however, you're saying that there's something wrong with him AS A PERSON, because of his parentage. And that I think is out of line, because it's not a political statement, it's a personal insult. You may not have meant it as such, but there isn't a black person in this country who would take it any other way.
