Re: Who for Veep?
by Dirk Gently
Yeah, I just don't buy that all of HRC's supporters would run to McCain: it's beyond childish, it's suicidal. Are they Dems or aren't they? Napolitano would be good, although I'm surprised to see nobody's mentioned Kathleen Sebelius (gov-KS): white woman, good progressive cred, good bipartisanship, comes from one of the reddest red states. I think the most useful VP in terms of demographics and symbolism would be someone LIKE Jim Webb, but not Webb himself: he's a freshman Senator, after all. His "white, crusty guy with war hero cred" advantages are completely wiped out by his low profile and inexperience (experience will be a factor, alas). Claire McCaskill's similar advantages in her own right suffer the same fate: inexperienced Senator (holy crap what a ticket those two would make in about 8 years' time!). Are there any truly progressive politics white women war heroes with legit foreign policy and/or military experience, with a cowgirl demeanor and who has an old picture of herself sitting astride a bagged deer, and whose husband is a NASCAR mechanic and/or rodeo clown? That's Obama's holy grail.
