Procrastination and Risk Aversion
by MamaH
As an intercultural consultant, I am surprised that none of the studies that were mentioned looked at the connection between procrastination and risk aversion or uncertainty avoidance. It seems to me that in cultures with higher risk aversion and uncertainty avoidance as values, they would not perceive procrastination as procrastination, but rather a natural part of the action chain of decision making or day-to-day operations.

It also seems to me that procrastination becomes more of a "problem" in our society the more linked up and wired we become. Our expectations of instantaneous fulfillment sets us up for "failure", thus making procrastination the "epidemic" it is. Perhaps the issue is not the procrastination behavior at all, but rather, our problematization of it in the first place.
