And long haired women (particularly blondes) in this country are socially treated as second class citizens who are automatically treated as if they are inferior to other people within the group that they self identify with - they are assumed to be weaker, less intelligent, less capable, routinely paid less etc. And when they remove their long hair, they are treated differently again, as if the removal of that signifier threatens the status quo, as if they are subverting traditional customs and values.

Hair is also used to prevent people from seeing you. Why do you think there are so many bleached blondes roaming the country - because that is the mask that they have been told is most acceptable to the group they self identify with, the one that will keep them in their proper place to acquire the priveledges and protections it traditionally allows for.

There is absolutely no difference between that and muslim women wearing hijab. So why not require the same dialogue about hairstyles - hairstyles that symbolize the traditional oppression of western women - as you seem to think necessary about scarf wearing?
