Ok, so let me see if I understand you're main points, Usama.
1. You are Muslim, and will respond to my point in religious terms. You also see my secularist views as having something to do with Christianity. I see this mode of discussion as useless.
2. You think that when I use the term "free society" I mean utopia (I don't. I recognize that there exists a broad spectrum of freedoms or lack thereoff, and that no society is perfect). You also use this distracting semantic point to completely avoid any discussion about real oppression and how it may or may not relate to veiling.
3. You see that, since the family (not individual) is the center of islamic society, then we must be talking about different standards of human rights. This is abject nonsense, because I am not talking about individuals, I am talking about millions of women as a group. Worse still is the fact that you consider that a legitimate arguement with which to dismiss concerns about the well-being of people (or families) who face physical harm because of oppressive policies.
What you have succeeded in arguing here is that any discussion of rights or oppression is just too darn relativist. You didn't even make an attempt to say that these people aren't actually suffering. Which is precisely why I started this thread: to point out that arguements like yours distract or make excuses from real-world oppression.
