When I think of the cultural values and messages lost forever over the confusion and/or distaste the dominant cultures have/had for names given by peoples they were ignorant of...like eastern european, asian, and african immigrants, not to mention the peoples that were here first.
Before movies, I wonder how many parents named their children after characters in novels, plays, operas, and other fictions.
Luther ranks around 900-1000 in popularity, and Mary remains popular in the top...both names from the bible (a fiction to many...)
It's hard for me to take issue with someone who names her child Anakin...a fictional hero...like Superman's Clark (ranks 600ish), Muhammed (ranks 600ish), and Jesus (ranks 70ish)..
